Greenboard is an Insulated Wall Panel

Greenboard is an Insulated Wall Panel that combines exterior cladding with insulation so designers can achieve the 6 star energy ratings that have been introduced into the building code. Greenboard‘s insulated core of high quality expanded polystyrene puts the Greenboard insulated panel in the best place of the building, as far towards the outer side as possible.

Greenboard Insulated Wall Panel is a lightweight, energy efficient product and once coated the system provides a weather resistant, seam free rendered finish.

Greenboard Advantages

CodeMark Certification

All building products must comply with the BCA (Building Code of Australia). NRG Building Systems has achieved CodeMark on Greenboard Insulated Wall Cladding meaning Greenboard complies to the BCA.

Insulation Qualities

All insulation materials are rated for their performance in restricting heat transfer. This rating is expressed as an R-value which is a measure of the material’s resistance to heat transfer (thermal resistance). The higher the R-value the greater insulating effect.

Total Wall R-value for using Greenboard

Thickness (mm)

40mm

60mm

75mm

100mm

R-value on total wall

1.92 R

2.44 R

2.83 R

3.48 R

Sound Rating

NRG Building Systems has tested 60mm Greenboard total wall system and the acoustic performance result was Rw35, Ctr-6. Please refer to NRG test results. The Greenboard walling system can be further enhanced by using a “sound rated” insulation batt. Please refer to insulation manufacture’s specifications.

Fire Retardant

Greenboard contains a flame retardant additive and will not support fire, it has a spread of flame index of zero. If in a fire situation the toxic fumes are no greater than that of timber and other building materials.

Grooved Panel

The surface of the Greenboard panel is Grooved both sides allowing the inside surface to breathe and channel any possible condensation away through the Grooves, downwards to the base of the wall. This is particularly important where “insulation” or “breather sarking” is used. The additional advantage being that when the Grooved face of Greenboard is rendered the system becomes stronger as the render gets into the Groove to form a core shape for better adhesion and a stronger more rigid Greenboard system.

Easy to Use

Greenboard‘s lightweight panel size is 2500 x 1200 allowing installers to cover the external walls quicker and easier. For the builder and their client, Greenboard gets the project to lock up stage quicker allowing other trades to start and complete their tasks.

Greenboard requires less energy to produce than other traditional building materials and contains no CFC’s nor HCFC’s. Greenboard does not contain ozone depleting substances and none are used in the manufacturing of this product. Greenboard can be recycled or NRG recommends left over Greenboard can be placed in the walls as extra insulation.

Greenboard contains a termite retardant (Bifenthrin) and NRG uses 62% more in their product than the minimum required.

Render Levels of Finish

Reinforced render is applied to the Greenboard substrate at approximately 4-8mm in thickness which allows qualified applicators to screed out usual imperfections and form a seam free level 5 finish. NRG recommends render over Greenboard should be specified by a coating manufacturer.

NRG Greenboard is environmentally responsible

Properties and Advantages of the NRG Walling

Environmental Factors

NRG Greenboard is environmentally responsible is manufactured from high – density, rigid, expanded polystyrene. The raw material is gained as a by-product of the manufacture of oil. Greenboard is manufactured without the use of CFC’s and does not contain or emit any poisonous gas. In fact NRG Greenboard is made up of 98% air entrapped in a closed cellular structure of polystyrene.

This entrapped air accounts for the extremely good insulation properties of the Greenboard. Disposal of waste building materials and polystyrene is becoming a major concern for today’s planners. This is not the case with NRG Greenboard. The off cuts can be glued within the wall cavity prior to the installation of the internal linings as additional insulation also cutting down the impact to our environment as all the material is being used leaving no material to be removed from site.

Insulation for Energy Efficient Buildings

The NRG Greenboard system is probably the most cost efficient method of insulation in terms of R-value per dollar. Unlike some other methods of insulation that allow thermal bridging across the timber or steel studs the NRG Greenboard provides a continuous insulative sheath around the entire building.

10 Year Warranty

Unlike most other systems on the market this warranty covers the complete system.

Impact Resistance

NRG Walling System has sufficient impact resistance to cope with most domestic and commercial situations. In areas where high impacts may occur a double layer of the reinforced render is used.

Easy to Render

The surface of the NRG Greenboard is etched and primed providing an excellent substrate for the NRG Reinforced Greenboard Render.

Energy Efficient Production

Greenboard uses much less energy in its production than conventional building materials such as concrete and masonary.

Fashionable Render Finishes

Available in a wide range of architectural colours and styles.

Design Freedom

Curved walls, rounded corners, embossed patterns, raised wall areas, mouldings and other architectural features are simple to achieve and economically viable with the versatile NRG Walling System.

Insect Repellent

NRG Greenboard is impregnated with a natural insect repellent, perform guard.

Biologically Inert

The board will not rot and provides no nutritive value for insects or microorganisms.

Building Wind Zones

When mechanically fixed to a variety of substrates in accordance with the “NRG Greenboard Walling System – Installation Manual”, November 2004 revision 3, the Wall Cladding System is suitable for use in the building wind zones as shown.

(Table A Wind Ratings)

QT Eco Series panel fixings

QT Eco Series panel fixings onto timber battens or metal channels with galvanised 75mm x 3.15 or 3.75mm ring shank nails (timber battens only) or 10g x 75mm Class 3 (AS3566) screws (timber or steel battens) with the addition of QT Buttons in all cases. Panel fixings must be no closer than 50mm but no further than 112mm to the horizontal panel edge and no closer than 50mm to the vertical edge, while normal fixing centres are at 225mm maximum centres.

It is essential that the vertical and horizontal butt joints be bonded with polyurethane foam adhesive. Also ensure Polyurethane foam adhesive is applied to all batten faces prior to the panel being pushed against them for maximum bonding to the support frame. Panels can be joined off stud, if glued to the abutting panel with polyurethane foam adhesive.

QT EcoSeries Wall Panels can span 225mm as an unsupported cantilever. Panels must span across a minimum of two channels or battens and must be installed in a horizontal stretcher bondpattern. To prevent corrosion from salt aerosols in high corrosion zones, (such as geothermal activity or within a 500m distance from the sea) upgrade fixing screws to class 4 or stainless steel (AS3566).

Framing

Timber framing must comply with AS 1684 and steel framing must be designed and constructed in accordance with AS 3623. Minimum distances from end and edge of timber framing members must be observed to avoid splitting. Stud spacing must not exceed 600mm centres.

Noggings must be fitted between studs at 1350mm maximum centres. With a 1.8 m spirit level, check for variations in the frame that are over 6 mm. Large variations negatively affect weather protection or can appear as visual defects under critical light conditions. If the frame is out of plumb, but not structurally defective, consult with the builder or contractor for remediation.

Windows

Wherever possible windows and associated flashings should be installed prior to the installation of the QT EcoSeries Wall Panel. When ordering the window frame it is essential to plan where the window flange will be positioned either flush with the stud frame, flush with battens or even over the panel. All materials that are susceptible to deterioration due to plastics migration or alkalinity of cement base products must be protected

Doors

Door framing must be fixed in position prior to the installation of the QT EcoSeries Wall Panels. The door framing will allow the panel to be cut and installed neat but independent of the frame. Doorframes must be fixed to the structural framing. Decorative mouldings can be used to emphasize the door opening. All materials that are susceptible to deterioration due to plastics migration or alkalinity of cement base products must be protected

Parapets

Parapets are generally used to conceal or to emphasize features of a building. The top of the parapet must be designed and installed to shed water and maintain the weatertighness of the building below.

Wall to Roof

Wall to roof details can often be unsightly as they are easily seen and hard to conceal without compromising the weathertighness of the dwelling. Because of its visibility, it is essential to create clean straight lines either by using a uPVC moulding or cover flashings.

Soffit & Eaves

The eaves or roof overhang play a significant role in the comfort performance of the building. Eaves or overhangs are used to shade the walls from the summer sun, while capturing the sun’s heat in the winter. Eaves will reduce glancing light, which highlights the wall surface. Glancing light is the light that is nearly parallel to the surface of the wall and casts visible shadows and uneven projections of the surface finish QT EcoSeries Wall Panels can be installed to suit various soffit designs and details.

Notes for Users and Installers of Eco Series Exterior Wall Panel

Do not use any steel (including Stainless) corner or expansion beads. Only alkali resistant fiberglass mesh or perforated PVC and aluminum profiles are acceptable.

QT Eco Series Wall Panel is a cement based material and therefore any water run-off from the panel or cement render may be alkaline and will damage anodizing. The builder must cover all anodized products (including windows) prior to panel installation and this covering should remain intact until render and coating system is completed.

The specified curing time must be allowed between render coats, usually 2-3 days but preferably 7 days, especially on pumped render as it is wetter during application.

Uneven sheet faces must be rasped or ground to feather edges regardless of the cause of the unevenness. Alternatively a patch render can be used to fill the low points, ensuring the edges are feathered and the curing times are observed.

During installation, the QT EcoSeries Wall Panels must be hard butted for the glue to function effectively. Bond all horizontal and vertical joints with polyurethane foam adhesive, moments prior to hard butting the panels.

The fixing of down pipe’s brackets and other lightweight fittings such as house numbers, can be done with metal Ramset Wallmates, other lightweight objects such as light fittings and security cameras use Ramset Hollow Wall Anchors or Ramset Toggles.

Heavy items or items with mechanical movement such as external taps, gates and clothes lines should have fixing provision made behind he sheet or seek the advice from QT Systems.

After delivery to site, the shrink wrapped packs of QT EcoSeries Wall Panels should have their wrapping sliced down each of the four corners, three sheets from the top. This will allow the panel to acclimatize prior to installation. Panels that get wet must be placed in a sunny well ventilated location and allowed to dry out prior to installation, (this will take several days of good sun and ventilation). Sheets that are wetted after installation should be allowed to dry prior to rendering. (This may take a week of fine weather). After drying make good all fixings and joints that may have been compromised.

- If in doubt, always ask your local representative for advice.

- Screws used in the CCA battens must be a minimum class 4 galvanized or stainless steel.

- The installer must have a copy of the QT EcoSeries Wall Panel technical manual on site at all times during installation.

QT Exterior Wall Systems

QT Exterior Wall Systems have been designed as masonry veneer wall for use on residential and low-rise commercial type buildings, where timber or metal frame construction techniques are used. Using masonry or brick veneer construction techniques and providing a drained and ventilated cavity, the QT EcoSeries Wall Panel provides the user with an exterior wall solution, ready to accept a proprietary coating system. If so desired, the QT EcoSeries Wall Panel System can be tailored to provide traditional deep reveal details of brick construction.

The starting point of the installation is to choose a slab edge detail, either rebated slab or non-rebated slab with Panel Boot. Prior to batten installation, apply a vapour permeable sarking, to the external face of stud frame. Sections of damp proof membranes are affixed to the frame around openings and the underside of the base course of panels.

Affix H3 timber battens (treated moisture resistant timber) or metal battens (Z275 0.55 BMT) vertically at stud centres, with fixings at 200mm to 400mm maximum centres depending on the wind classifications. An alternative choice is to use the Clip and Channel System, where clips are fixed over the vapour permeable sarking and into the external face of the stud frame. The metal channel is then clipped into the adjustable clip until plumb.

The QT EcoSeries Wall Panels are then horizontally face fixed in a stretcher bond pattern, to the battens using QT Button with galvanised screws or nails. QT EcoSeries Wall Panels are isolated from the structural framing, hence reducing potential stresses in the wall panel due to wall movement and providing long-term stability and integrity.

QT EcoSeries Wall Panels can be cut with an electrical circular saw or handsaw, and can be shaped with an electrical plane, router or hand rasp as required. During installation of QT EcoSeries Wall Panels, it is essential that all vertical and horizontal butt joints be bonded with polyurethane foam. All internal and external corners must have QT CornerMesh or continuous QT Fullmesh embedded into the wet render. Whilst Render is still wet embed QT 45°Mesh 150mm x 300mm at 45° across the corners of all openings. μPVC reveal beads can used to provide straight lines for rendered edges.

The QT EcoSeries Wall Panel is now ready for the application of the Acryloc coating system, consisting of a polymer-modified cement render and acrylic finish systems. The Acryloc coating system meets the performance criteria of the BCA 96.

For the correct application of the Acryloc coating system on the QT EcoSeries Wall Panel, please follow the below instructions.

QT EcoSeries Wall Panel is a masonry veneer

QT EcoSeries Wall Panel is a masonry veneer wall cladding system with a cavity.

QT EcoSeries Wall Panel offers a solid substrate which can accommodate a wide range of finishes, has high thermal insulation and sound abatement, fire resistance and ease of construction.

QT EcoSeries Wall Panels are manufactured from a material called ‘Conpolcrete ’ which consists of a blend of cement and recycled polystyrene.

QT Systems currently offer EcoSeries, an external walling system, EcoSEPARATE, a dividing wall system and EcoClad, an industrial shed system. All of these systems have high thermal and acoustic insulation but also have the benefit of being fire rated. These systems can create a 90/90/90 fire wall and so can be used for boundary wall fire walls and dividing walls between units and townhouses.

All systems are made from ‘Conpolcrete’, a patented formulation made from recycled polystyrene, cement and binders. QT Systems currently recycle approximately 500 000 litres of polystyrene each week that would have otherwise gone to landfill. The company is committed to continually developing innovative products for the construction industry.

All new products that are launched are strenuously tested through internationally renowned testing facilities providing reassurance that all systems will meet any regulatory standard it is designed to meet with the certificates to prove it.
So please don’t hesitate to contact QT Systems and see if one of there environmentally responsible systems can’t be used in your next development.
